I bought this book from Amazon.com but somebody stole the package off my porch. I hope the thief got an eye-opening history lesson.

Gemini tattoo by Samuel Steward

I have finally committed myself to reading the rest of Secret Historian (more than half way through) and I’m obsessed and fascinated by this man… in honor of him, decided I am going to get a design of his (maybe this one since I’m a Gemini) somewhere on my body….

I highly recommend this book!  a FEW “fun facts” off the top of my head…so far…

1. Close friends with Gertrude Stein and Alice B. Toklas.

2. Has sex with Rudolph Valentino (and makes a shrine using Valentino’s pubic hair)

3. Has oral sex with co-worker, Roy Fitzgerald (Rock Hudson), in the stores freight elevator. 

4. Receives photographs from/by George Platt Lynes in exchange for his erotic stories (GPL was an early supporter of his writings).

5. Becomes a tattoo artist in his early 40’s.

6. Courted Dode Brando at their AA meetings (1940’s) in hopes of meeting her handsome son, Marlon Jr.

7. “Unofficial collaborator” with Alfred Kinsey and the Institute For Sex Research.

8. Steward (tattoo artist name: Phil Sparrow) did Kenneth Anger’s Lucifer chest tattoo.

If you’re curious what gay life was like when you could be imprisoned for simply owning porn, read this book and learn what true defiance is. Sam Steward is an inspiration to me.
